Clinton native, former LumberKing, promoted to MLB

CLINTON, Iowa (KWQC) - A Clinton native is heading to the major leagues.

Jared Simpson, who played for the Clinton LumberKings from 2021 to 2023, was promoted to the Washington Nationals, according to a Facebook post.

Simpson is the second LumberKing to be promoted to the major leagues in the Prospect League era, officials said.

Simpson was an All-State player at Clinton high school his senior season. He went on to play college baseball at Iowa Western CC, Missouri and Iowa. He was drafted by the Nationals in the 8th round of the 2023 draft.
