Illinois receives A- in 2026 Digital States Survey

(WAND) – Illinois received an A- in the 2026 Digital States Survey, an evaluation of technology practices of state government in all 50 states.

This evaluation happens every two years, and on Thursday, Illinois’ grade increased.

States were evaluated based on actions supporting state priorities and policies to improve operations or services, hard and soft-dollar savings and benefits, progress since the last evaluation, innovative and citizen-centric services and effective collaboration.

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services said states that received an A grade demonstrated a very strong innovation and high performing solutions with verifiable impacts across all categories.

“Illinois is showing what’s possible when we invest in modernization and put residents at the center of every digital service we build,” said Brandon Ragle, Secretary and State CIO for the Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology. “This recognition reflects the measurable progress we’re making across government, and we remain committed to delivering secure, intuitive tools that meet the needs of our residents today and in the years ahead.”

CMS said the state was also recognized with an Outstanding Achievement Award for Constituent Digital Experience for its digital service strategy that engages constituents and businesses with solutions focused on continually improving services to the public.
