(CNN) - Thousands of passengers set to travel on Royal Caribbean’s giant “Oasis of the Seas” had their bathing suits, sunscreen and floppy hats ready to go, heading for the Bahamas.

Just hours before they had to be on the ship, they were told that bad weather forced a change of itinerary.

A big one.

Now, instead of heading south, they would sail north, to Halifax, Canada.

The travelers had to quickly trade bikinis for hoodies, but most of them took it all in stride.

“Of course, it’s not the 80-degree Bahamas, so, you know, make from lemons, you make lemonade,” one passenger said.

Now, the ship will spend three days at sea before returning to New Jersey.

Royal Caribbean gave passengers 50 percent off travel vouchers in exchange for the inconvenience.
