DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) — State Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott (D - West Des Moines) has won three close races in her legislative campaigns and now finds herself running in a competitive race for the U.S. House of Representatives that has national attention.

Sarah Trone Garriott bio:

Age: 48

Home: West Des Moines

Current job: state senator

Other jobs: Lutheran minister, hospital chaplain, and Des Moines Area Religious Council Coordinator of Interfaith Engagement

Trone Garriott laid out what she believes will be the main issue of the mid-term election.

Trone Garriott currently represents about 64,000 people in her senate district. A member of the U.S. House would represent about 800,000 Iowans.

Here’s what Trone Garriott said will be the difference in representing a larger area.

Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District is among the most highly-watched national contests in the country because it could help determine whether Republicans or Democrats will hold the majority of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Trone Garriott is running against U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn (R - Ankeny).
