Princeton man sentenced for standoff that resulted in toddler’s death
PRINCETON, Ill. (KWQC) - A Princeton, Illinois, man was sentenced on Wednesday for his role in a standoff on Mother’s Day that left a three-year-old dead.
In September, Anthony Daniel Rodriguez, 42, plead guilty to:
- 3 counts of aggravated unlawful restraint
- Aggravated assault
- 2 counts of domestic battery
On Wednesday, a judge sentence him to five years in prison on the restraint charges, which will run concurrently, and 160 days in the Bureau County Jail.
Rodriguez got credit for 178 days time served.
On May 10, police responded to a home in the 2700 block of East Street in Princeton where they heard screaming from the home.
Police said Rodriguez was holding Aurora Almanza-Arevalo and her two children at knife-point.
Police said Rodriguez barricaded himself inside the home and refused to talk to police.
When officers go inside, Rodriguez jumped on the bed that had the children in it. An officer fired what court documents described as a “non-lethal round” at Rodriguez.
Then came gunfire, two shots. One struck Rodriquez. Another hit 3-year-old Damian Camacho.
Rodriguez was taken to a hospital for treatment and was booked into the Bureau County Jail. Camacho died.
