FORT MADISON, Iowa (KWQC) - BNSF Railway says the Fort Madison bridge will be closed for repairs beginning in August.
The repairs to the bridge include replacing floor beams and stringers at six locations on both the east and west approach, a media release said.
The bridge extends across the Mississippi River on Illinois 9 from Niota, Illinois, to Fort Madison, Iowa.
The work will start on Aug. 5 and go through Aug. 30. Drivers can use the bridge from Aug. 31 to Sept. 8 during the Tri-State Rodeo in Fort Madison.
The bridge will close again on Sept. 9. The project is expected to finish by the end of November.
A detour will be in place while repairs are being done.
