Galesburg city council delays fire station vote, approves wind and solar regulations

The city council made several decisions during Monday night's meeting.

GALESBURG, Ill. (KWQC) - Galesburg city leaders voted on regulating solar and wind energy systems and demolishing a former fire station Monday night.

Solar and wind energy systems regulation

City leaders unanimously approved regulations for solar energy systems.

They also approved an amendment that would:

  • Increase square footage requirements for ground-mounted systems in residential zones from 100 square feet to 200 square feet.
  • Decrease the height limit for ground-mounted systems from 15 feet to 12 feet.

City leaders also unanimously approved regulating wind energy systems.

Demolition of the former Maple Avenue Fire Station

City leaders decided to defer their vote on demolishing the former Maple Avenue Fire Station to August 18.

The demolition and cleanup could cost $55,700 according to city documents.

The former fire station has primarily been used as a storage facility, but officials said it is starting to deteriorate and needs repairs.
