The 51st running of the Bix 7
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Thousands of runners hit the pavement Saturday morning for the 51st running of the Quad-City Times Bix 7.
Alex Maier from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, was the Bix 7 Elite Men’s winner, while Vibian Chepkirui from Kenya was the Elite Women’s winner.
According to officials, the MercyOne Genesis medical tent treated about 17 runners during the Quad City Times Bix on Saturday.
“The wet weather conditions contributed to fewer heat-related problems for the runners, but we did deal with more injuries from slips as falls than we have in past years,” said Ed Motto, MD, Medical Tent Director. “Every one of the 104 medical tent volunteers did a fantastic job today. From our doctors, nurses, and LPNs to the team members who handle logistics, security, and materials. We are a well-oiled machine and love what we do. I am grateful for having such a great team of professionals who take the time to come out and take part in the MercyOne Genesis medical tent every year.”
Bix officials said the race will be postponed until 9 a.m. for the potential for heavy rain, lightning and a flash flood watch.
“Please stay alert, listen for public address announcements, and be aware of your surroundings throughout the event. As always, the safety of participants, volunteers, and spectators remains our top priority,” said Laura Torgerud, Operations Director.
