18-year-old drunk on hand sanitizer attacks police officer
CANTON, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) - An Ohio woman is facing charges after police say she punched an officer in the face while under the influence.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance call on Feb. 16 on 3rd Street SW in Canton.
Police say Jade Cain and her boyfriend, Alan King, had caused problems at the address before.
When officers arrived, body camera video shows King’s mother outside on the sidewalk, who started filling them in on the ongoing issues between the couple.
Police say that’s when Cain and King came out of the house. Cain started arguing with the family almost immediately, according to the report.
Officers said Cain appeared to be under the influence of something and couldn’t stop talking.
Officers later discovered Cain had ingested hand sanitizer.
According to the report, one officer decided to detain her in a patrol cruiser to get the investigation moving.
That’s where things got physical. While officers walked her to the cruiser, Cain went limp and dropped to the ground.
Once at the cruiser, Cain sat down briefly, and the body camera footage shows her asking for a shoe.
Police say she then swung her left hand and hit the officer in the face with her fist. The officer is shown in the video slamming the door shut.
Another officer arrives on the scene shortly after and talks to the family before Cain is taken to the Stark County Jail.
At the jail, police say they put Cain in a holding room. Cain reportedly started kicking the door and banging her head against it.
At some point, she slipped her left hand out of the handcuffs and started slamming the cuffs against the cell door window, cracking and shattering the glass.
Cain was charged with assaulting a peace officer and vandalism.
She is expected back in court on February 24.
