DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A woman accused of setting a fire near a propane tank at a gas station has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Deanne Chance, 58, pleaded to third-degree arson, an aggravated misdemeanor, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.

Courts records show she was sentenced to a suspended two-year prison sentence and placed on one year of unsupervised probation. This means if she completes probation, she will not have to serve the prison sentence.

Chance was originally charged with:

  • First- and second-degree arson
  • Felony assault on a police officer
  • Criminal mischief
  • Interference with a weapon
  • Interference with official acts

On Oct. 3, Davenport firefighters responded to Kwik Star on Kimberly Road after a report of a fire near a liquid propane storage cage.

Officials said crews found signs of the fire being set intentionally.

Later Chance returned to the gas station and threatened officers with a knife and set fire to the gas pumps, according to officials.
