CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A beef jerky company has recalled 946 pounds of product that was not inspected and improperly labelled.

The Imperio brand beef jerky in original, fuego and limón varieties were recalled.

They were packaged between January and October and were sold in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin.

A USDA food safety inspector discovered that the products from the Elgin, Illinois facility were not inspected, and were packed with a USDA inspection seal on the label.

The recall is classified at the highest-level, with reasonable probability that the product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

Food that hasn’t been inspected may contain undeclared allergens, bacteria or other harmful substances.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury from eating these products.

The USDA urges anyone with this food item to not eat it, throw it away, and contact a healthcare provider if any adverse reactions to the food occur.
