GALESBURG, Ill. (KWQC) - The Knox County Housing Authority will open a second warming shelter on Sunday.

In a Facebook post, officials said the second facility allows them to expand their ability to give people experiencing homelessness a safe place to stay.

“Our shelters provide more than a place to escape the cold,” officials said in the post. “They offer safety, dignity, and an opportunity to connect with resources that can help individuals move toward greater housing stability.”

The two winter shelters will be open 24 hours a day, every day from Sunday to March 31, 2027.

People who come to the shelters will have access to:

  • A warm and safe place to sleep
  • Showers
  • Laundry facilities
  • Community resources and supportive services

There will also be a bus service to the shelter and officials said passes will be available while supplies last.

The shelters are located at 525 and 515 Iowa Court in Galesburg.
