ROCK ISLAND Co., Ill. (KWQC) - The Rockridge Community School District is sharing a scary video from a school bus on one of their routes.

In the video, you can hear a bus driver urgently warning a student who is about to get off the bus, not to leave because there’s a vehicle speeding past the stopped school bus with it’s stop arm extended.

This is an issue the district said they have been struggling with since the beginning of the school year.

The district said they’ve even taken extra measures like installing additional flashing lights on their buses, reiterating school bus safety procedures to students, and plastering slow down signs all around town, yet they’re still seeing drivers not following the law.

In Illinois, if you’re caught, you’ll be fined $300 and then your license will be suspended for three months.

If it’s a second-time violation in Illinois, it’s a mandatory $1,000 fine and a one-year suspension on your license.

In Iowa, the fine for a first time offense for passing a stopped school bus can result in a fine of up to $345.
