Police have identified the man they say attacked a local photojournalist last week.

The Rock Island Police Department said the man has been identified as Brett R. Laermans, 45, of Rock Island.

The incident happened in the parking lot of a Rock Island general store Friday. The photojournalist was not hurt in the incident.

Police said the Rock Island County State's Attorney's Office has issued charges of criminal damage of property and battery.

Laermans has been issued a notice to appear in court on July 13. He has not been physically arrested.
