Davenport man facing drug, firearm charges after search

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A Davenport man is facing drug and firearm charges after a home he owns was searched Monday.

James E. Kenney, 48, is charged with:

• Possession of controlled substance, marijuana first offense
• Felony possession of controlled substance, third or subsequent offense
• Felony dominion/control of firearm/offensive weapon by felon
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
• Interference with official acts

Around 3 a.m. Davenport police officers stopped a vehicle in the 800 block of Brown Street for a broken tail-light.

According to court documents, during the stop, a K-9 positively alerted to the front passenger door of the vehicle, which was then searched and a small amount of marijuana was found.

Officers got a search warrant for the driver’s home. Kenney, officials said, is one of the owners of the property and was detained during the search.

Kenney is in the Scott County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 9.
