(Gray News) — Justin Cary, bassist for the band Sixpence None the Richer, has died at age 50.

Cary died Thursday after suffering a stroke last week, according to a GoFundMe page.

The page said Cary underwent two surgeries and was in the ICU at Albany Medical Center in New York.

Sixpence None the Richer is best known for its 1997 hit “Kiss Me.”

The song hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the Grammy Awards.

Other hits from Sixpence None the Richer include “There She Goes” and “Don’t Dream It’s Over.”

The band’s lead singer, Leigh Nash, also confirmed Cary’s death in an Instagram post.

“‘We sure had a great time’ is an understatement. Thank you, Justin. We love you forever … There’s never been anybody like Justin,” Nash wrote.

According to Cary’s website, he also played bass for other musical acts, including Counting Crows and Lee Brice.
