Coroner identifies 79-year-old killed in Milan crash on Knoxville Road

ROCK ISLAND CO., Ill. (KWQC) - A 79-year-old man died Thursday after his car hit a tree in Milan, authorities said.

On Friday, Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson identified the driver as Ronald E. Ayers of Linn Center, Illinois.

According to the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office, Ayers was heading east on the 9900 block of Knoxville Road when his car went off the road and crashed into a tree. He died at the scene.

Deputies had previously withheld his identity while working to notify his family.

The crash remains under investigation.
