Man charged after leading Davenport police on chase, crashing into front yard

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A Davenport man has been charged after police said he led officers on a vehicle chase in Davenport that ended in a crash.

Police said around 5:15 Saturday morning, 31-year-old Gilberto Castillo was driving in the 700 block of Federal Street when he came upon a marked patrol car.

Castillo then drove away at a high rate of speed before turning north onto Farnam Street, driving through the stop sign and turning onto East 6th Street, according to court documents.

Castillo lost control and drove into the front yard of 608 East 6th Street, through a hand railing and over a retaining wall before crashing into a parked vehicle.

Police said after the crash, Castillo ran away from the scene and was eventually caught by officers.

He faces multiple charges including eluding, operating while under the influence, driving while license is revoked and several traffic violations.

He is being held in the Scott County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for 3 p.m. Aug. 4.
