Former Davenport fire chief dies at 76

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The Davenport Fire Department announced the death of former Fire Chief Mark Frese.

Fire officials said Frese died Friday morning at his home at the age of 76.

Frese served over 35 years with the Davenport Fire Department beginning in 1974. Frese rose through the ranks, becoming fire chief in 2000.

Fire officials said Frese served in that roll until he retired in 2011.

“One of my favorite things about my eight years as Davenport Alderman At -Large was the opportunity I had to work with and get to know Chief Mark Freese. Not only was Mark a great firefighter, Fire Chief and natural born leader, he was a friend to so many. His service to Davenport was invaluable and he will be missed.” said Davenport Mayor Jason Gordon.
